Did I get an API Ban? How to prevent an API Ban?

If you think you may have received an API ban you can do a test by going to drive.google.com and going to the Team Drive, find any video file and right click it then go to Download. If you have an API ban you will get an error message: Download Quota Exceeded

How to prevent an API ban

  1. Setup Plex_Autoscan. Plex_Autoscan only scans in the new files without the need of doing full Library scans which reduces API calls to Google.
  2. Setup your Plex Media Server using the safe settings found in this guide: Plex Media Server settings to prevent Google API bans. This will prevent Plex from scanning to often and also prevent deep scanning “analysis” where Plex will download parts of each file to find out its media info.
  3. Do not create more than 1 mount per Google account. Creating additional projects in Google Developer Console does not increase API per sec/min/hour/day limits.
  4. Re-creating and scanning in your Libraries to often may also cause an API ban.
  5. Un-mounting the Shared Drive and re-mounting it to often, can cause an API ban.
